Devils Drop 3 Sticks on Ice to Trip Up Hurricanes

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

Did anyone else notice that the Devils seemed to just drop sticks on the ice alot? I know sticks break but at one point there were at least 3 sticks on the ice … Was it some new defensive plan? They were sure getting in the way.

I guess when they realized they couldnt keep up they decided to lay down some interference… sad.

Carolina Hurricanes 4 New Jersey Devils 1

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

It wasnt 7-2 as I predicted, (I don’t ever get the score) but a 4-1 beating of the hated Devils is a nice pre-Christmas Present.

The Hurricanes have outscored the Devils 10-2 in the last 2 matchups. It looks like its not much of a rivalry anymore…the Devils just cannot compete.

This starts off the home stand at a nice 3-0 with the next game a critical matchup with the Lightning on tuesday.

Playing like the Hurricanes did in the 3rd makes me think we are looking at a home winning streak that will out do the earlier one this year.

Scoring Summary:

Congratulations to Chad Larose for scoring his first NHL Goal. Staal added to it 20 seconds later to nail the coffin shut on the once mighty devils. Brind’Amour added to his point streak, and Erik Cole tallied a nice one for the CSS Line.
The CSS Line is back: Cole 2 pts, Stillman 3 points, Staal 2 points.

Carolina Hurricanes 2 Columbus Blue Jackets 1

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

Defense, Special Teams, Goal Tending, and Brind’Amour with 2 goals. Game Over.

Columbus Coach Gallant said it best: “They’re playing as a team, that’s why they’re winning, that’s why they’re leading their division,… “They deserved the win, with a good goalie and good defense.”

I remember at one point in the game seeing Brindy get pissed off at Jody (45) and I just knew from that point on that he was going to have a great game. The whole team played well even in the 1st period where there was no scoring they were putting a lot of shots on net.

The crowd last night was pretty weak..I guess many people aren’t sure where Columbus is or even what the blue jackets are….

I expect a big crowd Saturday as New Jersey has always been a hated team in this area going back to the days of Keith prime (glad he’s gone) and Scott Stevens Knocking the Crap out of Ron Francis in the Playoff Series some years ago.

I cannot wait for that game Saturday. Tailgating maybe in a snowstorm and watching hockey… I expect to see a Carolina Hurricanes 5 goal game, with a win of course.

Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 over The Blackhawks on Tuesday

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

The Blackhawks stopped Staal from scoring for only the 6th time in 30 games,,, too bad they lost the game.

As predicted a victory, it didn’t happen in overtime but I’ll take a come from behind win with 5 goals especially since the Canes were down 2-1 at one point. Cullen scores 2 in the victory.

“The Blackhawks hadn’t lost in regulation in seven games, including a run of four in a row decided in overtime, and had a two-game winning streak snapped.” From the NHL.com Recap.

Laviolette apparently got the team fired up at intermission. Nice work Pete, it is nice to have good coach here in North Carolina. “I think everybody knew that coming back from a road trip, it was going to be pulling teeth at times to get going,” Laviolette said. “My job is to hold them accountable for a certain standard of play that they’re capable of playing. And we didn’t play that way in the first period.”

Next Up the Columbus Blue Jackets… Is that a bird??

Eric Staal Fastest to Reach 40 Points in Carolina Hurricanes History

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

42 now.

Yes, he has eclipsed even the Revered Ron Francis. I have mentioned Eric Staal many, many times here and even speculated that he has been the best the offensive player I have watched on this Carolina Hurricanes team.

Congratulations to Eric Staal. Is this the first of many records to be broken? I think so.

Carolina Hurricanes Lose Tough One to Thornton and Sharks

Posted by admin in Carolina Hurricanes Commentary

I guess not all the California Teams Suck. Carolina Hurricanes 3 San Jose Sharks 4

Thornton led the Sharks to a victory with 1 goal and 3 assists. Cheechoo Train Scored 2 more and Ekman the final.

The Canes : Brind’Amour, Eric Staal (shorthanded), and Craig Adams (playing extremely well right now).

The canes won’t have a chance for a rematch unless the Sharks make it to the cup to play them this year.

This was a tough loss but the Carolina Hurricanes continue to impress with their play.

It could happen.
